Rock music

How did you learn to play guitar?
I took classical guitar lessons from Garth Cookingham who studied under Sergovia, the famous spanish guitarist. I took jazz lessons from Jim Stringer.
Have you taken lessons if so do you take lessons now?
I have taken lessons and am always still learning.
Where was your first gig?
Topeka, Ks.
How did you get it?
Cold calling
How scared were you?
I was never scared.
How do you get gigs?
Cold calling and the internet
Do you use an agent, if so how did you get that rolling?
What do you use for equipment?
I have a rack mount for guitar and marshall cab. I have my own sound equipment. My main Instrument is a 1971 Gibson SG that I purchased new.
Do you use a monitor?
Do you have any tips you can share as far as setting up your equipment for a gig?
be very organized, and always check your equipment when not gigging, so there are no surpises when you do gig. always have extra cords, batteries etc. Use cases for all your sensative equipment.
How long was you longest gig?
6 hours @ an Army base.
How long was your shortest gig?
15 minutes
How do you choose what songs to learn?
All songs I do @ this time are original. I do pick and choose according to the gig.
How do you learn new songs, by ear, YouTube, books?

When you practice do you go through a P. A. or just you and your guitar?
computer, amp/guitar

John Mclauglin, Al Dimeola, Lee Ritenour, Strunz & Farrah, Joe Satriani
How often do you play out?
Twice to three times a week

Do you have any aspirations to take you music further than your current success?
I think most musicians do especially if you write music.
How far will you travel?
As far as I can

Chicago, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, Des Moines, Fargo/Moorhead, Daytona.
Can you recall you best show?
I am always prepared so they usually go pretty good.
How about your worst show?
when I was younger i was playing in a rock band, and was miss booked in a country bar. we were union musicians and even though we were fired we still got paid.
Do you have any advice for a person just getting in to gigging that you would like to share?
Do not get caught up in drugs or booze it is a dead end street. I have seen alot of great musicians over the years waste their talent.
Anything else that you would like to share?
If you are planning on being a musician be the best you can be. master your art. so many musicians these days are just playing to get by.
