Gig #33 Grand Ledge St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at the Opera House

Gig #33
Gig #33 Grand Ledge St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at the Opera House

The Gig:
I was one of 5 or 6 artist to perform at the St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Grand Ledge Opera house.

The Lesson Learned:
As I sat in the audience listening to other performers play before it was my turn to go on, I was pretty impressed with the quality of the sound. When it was my turn, I plugged in my guitar. The guy running the sound board told me to strum a few times and check the mic. He gave me the thumbs up and I started playing. The monitors did not work and from my position behind the speakers the audio sounded extremely bassy. With the rich bassy tone I felt like I needed to back off the guitar and especially the lower base string which felt un-natural, which I’m sure it diminished my performance. Again, I’m sure that with more experience this gets easier to deal with

The Music:
I played a few Irish songs, “Molly Malone” and Wild Rover” along with a few other cover songs. The response from the audience was pretty good and the Irish tunes seemed to be liked by all. For my last selection I played for the first time in public “Red Solo Cup” which was definitely the favorite of the songs I performed.

Note: The performer in the photo is Chip Christy, a Grand Ledge native and well know performer in Michigan area.

Special thanks to:
• Dan O’Shea for inviting me to play at the event.

Looking forward to the next one,
